Shopping questions

What is the difference between Nike Air Max and Air Zoom?

Air Max and Air Zoom refer to different Nike Air designs. Nike describes Air Zoom as a low-profile unit with tensioned threads inside, while Max Air designs can use larger, higher-profile units. Choose the complete shoe by its intended use and fit, rather than the Air name alone.

The cushioning name is only part of the specification

A shoe can combine an Air unit with foam and other design features. The women’s Air Max 270 React CW3094-100 below combines a Max Air 270 unit with React foam in a lifestyle trainer. The Pegasus 39 and 40 examples combine React foam with Air Zoom cushioning in road-running shoes.

These examples show why it helps to read the whole description. A visible Air window, a shared foam name or the word “Air” does not make two models identical in purpose, upper design or feel.

Choose the activity, then compare the details

For everyday styling, compare the lifestyle models and photographs of the exact colourways. For a road-running purchase, begin with models explicitly described for road running. After that, compare the available full size label, fit guidance and current price.

This edit includes women’s Air Max 270 React listings and men’s Pegasus listings. Keep those labels in view when comparing US sizes. No single cushioning name can guarantee which pair will feel most comfortable to a particular wearer.

Compare current options

Choose a product to check the available sizes, current price and full details. Stock is specific to each size.

Each displayed shoe has at least four distinct UK sizes that currently pass the stock and availability checks. Size labels and prices belong to the exact variants shown; availability can change.

Questions before you choose

Does every shoe with Air in the name have the same cushioning?
No. The type and placement of the Air unit, accompanying foam and complete shoe construction can differ. Check the exact model.
Can an Air Max shoe also contain React foam?
Yes. The Air Max 270 React CW3094-100 shown here combines a Max Air 270 unit with React foam. That specification should not be assumed for every Air Max model.
Does Air Zoom automatically mean a running shoe?
Choose by the exact model’s intended use. This guide’s Pegasus examples are road-running shoes; the technology name alone is not a complete activity specification.
